LNA November: Kindred Ash by Gwen Stevenson

  • Digital Arts Studios 1 Exchange Place Belfast, Northern Ireland, BT1 2NA United Kingdom (map)

Kindred Ash is an interactive, immersive installation exploring the ecological, cultural, and emotional significance of the ash tree in Ireland, in the context of ash dieback and environmental change.

Through projected imagery, movement and sound, the work invites reflection on the fragility of living systems and our place within a changing landscape.

You are invited to walk freely through the darkened space. As you move in front of the camera, ash trees appear. Their forms shift and disperse in response to your movement, accompanied by a soundscape of field recordings.

Explore at your own pace. Try moving in and out of the camera’s view and notice how the imagery and sound change. The trees may disappear when you are no longer visible to the camera, even if you remain inside the installation.

Part of Belfast international Arts Festival.
