Vanissa Law

I am a Hong Kong-born composer and interdisciplinary artist, working across acoustic composition, electroacoustic experimentation, multimedia installations, and community-focused projects. My practice explores the interplay between sound, language, gesture, and cultural identity, inviting audiences to engage with art in ways that are both personal and participatory.

Born and raised in vibrant Hong Kong, life was once understood as a pursuit of stability—owning a home, securing regular meals. A formative exchange to the U.S. at the age of twenty shifted that perspective, revealing broader possibilities beyond routine expectations.

After completing a master’s degree in the U.S., the return to Hong Kong marked the beginning of a creative journey—balancing artistic expression with the demands of daily life. A decade of building a career followed, shaped by the city's dynamic pace and intensity.

Over time, a desire for slower rhythms and deeper reflection led to a move to Northern Ireland—a space to reset, reconnect, and begin a new chapter. Works created in Hong Kong often reflect urgency and vibrancy, shaped by a fast-moving environment. In contrast, the present setting offers a chance to embrace a gentler tempo, allowing fresh air and new surroundings to open up different artistic directions.

Residency period: May - July 2025.
