Silvia Koistinen
During the DAS Home Residency Silvia will focus on experimenting with and developing skills in projection and sound installation, with the aims of developing new work in these mediums - exploring, reflecting upon, and mirroring the duality between the physical and the digital worlds we live in, both physically and conceptually. She will also consider the possibilities of interactive technologies through the available workshops and resources, and further develop skills in lighting, video recording and editing.
Silvia Koistinen is a Belfast-based visual artist, writer, and curator from Clare, of Brazilian and Finnish heritage.
Through site-specific installations and interventions, her interdisciplinary practice looks at the quotidian/ubiquitous objects which fill and make up our lives - from their materiality, agency, and essence, to our (potential, or lack of) sentimental connection to them. She identifies as neither a sculptor nor object-maker, but as a gatherer / holder / supporter of objects, things, and practices.
Silvia is a Flax Art Studios member since 2021 and her practice has been supported by Arts Council Northern Ireland and Arts Council Ireland.
Residency period: August - November 2025
