Duncan Herd’s practice manifests through conceptual-based installation and the use of assisted ready-mades. Daily transactions of contemporary life are simulated to allow for a refreshed experience of the everyday, involving hyperbolic alterations to scale, function, placement, and material states. Recent works investigate the physical and social boundaries of public space; revealing the strategies of spatial design, and the influence of safety and security measures.
During his residency at Digital Arts Studios, works made will focus on gaining new perspectives of sculpture through digital means. Duncan intends to develop a sculptural instalment and a publication, each pertaining to post-digitalism, counter-terrorism, and the notion of the disguised or concealed within the visual arts.
