Alannah Bates
Alannah Bates (she/her) is an Irish visual artist working between sculpture, installation, and moving-image artworks. Bates’ recent work explores the Irish landscape through large-scale, ritualistic installations using materials like cut branches, precious metals and salt. Her CGI and VR works draw parallels between cyberspace and the folkloric “Otherworld,” engaging with themes of imperial legacy, gender, and the exploitation of land. Like the sacred sites that inspire her, Bates’ practice is an exercise in attempting to heal. This healing is fuelled by the use of thought processes such as spiritual geography and belonging remapping.
Recent exhibitions include pact.xiv (Arts for All, Belfast, 2024) and cohere (Queens Street Studios, 2023).
Residency period: April - July 2025.
